Is Geico DriveEasy worth it?
Your own driving patterns will determine if the Geico DriveEasy program is worth it. The good thing is that your individual driving patterns can save you even more money if you are a safe driver and can score well in the DriveEasy program.
What are the odds you’ll score well given your current driving patterns? You’ll be able to see your score and the components right in the DriveEasy app, which must be logged in and running in the background.
Of course, this means your phone battery will drain much quicker with this app. However, you can improve your driving patterns for increased road safety and cheaper rates, which could be seen as a decent trade-off.
If a policyholder doesn’t drive enough, Geico can choose to remove the user from the program.

What is Geico DriveEasy?
Geico introduced a new usage-based auto insurance program to reward safe drivers with huge savings by providing valuable information about individual driving patterns. Safe drivers save money. Riskier drivers may see higher car insurance rates, depending on the state they live in.
The DriveEasy app dashboard displays your good driving streak, score, and last trip details. Links to view your family report card, score details, and more also help you improve your driving.
DriveEasy looks for things like speeding, hard braking, handheld phone calls, and active phone use. Active phone use is any touching of your phone for any reason by any person in the vehicle. Your score is based on how frequently these actions occur during a trip.
Passive phone use refers to mounted phones displaying the screen, such as using a map, and otherwise not actively interacting with the phone. This is not included in the score.
To maintain a good score, you’ll need to manually adjust your trips when you’re a passenger. If someone else uses your phone while you drive, those trips will also need to be adjusted as passenger trips.
When using DriveEasy, you don’t need to open the app each time you drive. Geico will track your driving from behind the scenes, and the company takes measures to protect your personal information.
The information DriveEasy gathers while you drive is encrypted and stored in one of their secure servers in the U.S. To further protect your identity, follow the steps recommended by the Federal Trade Commission.
Currently, Geico DriveEasy is available in the following states:
- Arizona
- Colorado

- Louisiana
- Kentucky
- Maryland
- North Carolina
- New Jersey
- New Mexico

How do I sign up for Geico DriveEasy?
You must already have a Geico car insurance policy to sign up for the Geico DriveEasy program.
Download and install the Geico mobile app and enable your settings to automatically detect your driving as long as you remain logged in. Others on your car insurance policy will also need their own mobile app access.
Check the app often to review your individualized score based on distraction-free driving, braking, and other driving behaviors tracked and logged in DriveEasy.
Better driving will raise the driver through the Geico Drive Easy score range. High scores will factor into your car insurance rates to reward safe drivers.
