United Heritage is a group of three companies based out of Idaho. Between the companies, they offer home insurance, auto insurance, and life insurance as well as several other types of coverage including business coverage.
What is United Heritage?
United Heritage comprises three companies: United Heritage Life Insurance Company, United Heritage Property & Casualty, and Sublimity Insurance. The first of the companies were founded as The Farmers Fire Relief Association of Sublimity in 1896, which would later be known as Sublimity Insurance.
The two companies now under the United Heritage name were founded a little later. In 1908 Canyon County Farmers Mutual Insurance company (later Idaho Mutual and now United Property & Casualty) was founded, followed in 1934 by Grange Mutual Insurance Company (now United Heritage Life).
In 2001, Grange Mutual Insurance underwent a restructuring and changed its name to United Heritage Life under a holding company, United Heritage Financial. The acquiring of the company then known as Idaho Mutual resulted in that company being re-branded as well, as United Heritage Property & Casualty. In 2003 the holding company acquired Oregon-based Sublimity, which operates as a subsidiary today.
As the names imply, United Heritage Life writes life insurance products, while the Property & Casualty company offers auto, home, farm, and business insurance. Since we have reviewed Sublimity separately, this review will focus on the United Heritage companies and their products.
United Heritage’s headquarters is located in Meridian, Idaho, and products are sold through independent agents. The company reports that it is the largest insurer with headquarters in Idaho.

What types of insurance products are offered?
Between the two companies, United Heritage is a one-stop-shop for most insurance needs. United Heritage Property &. Casualty products are available only in Idaho, Arizona, Utah, and Oregon.
Life Insurance
The insurer focuses mainly on permanent life insurance, although there is a term life insurance policy available in their group benefits package. Information about the policies is limited.
ProPlus Whole Life is the company’s main life insurance product and appears to be a standard whole life policy based on the little information found on the company website. Issue ages and benefit amounts are not listed, but three possible riders are an accidental death benefit, children’s term rider, and waiver of premium.
Final Expense life is available in two forms: Protector Whole Life and Modified Benefit. The health condition of the applicant determines which of these they’ll qualify for, but the company states that the majority of applicants will qualify for one or the other.
A Prepaid Funeral Planning program is also available in association with the National Association of Funeral Directors. This program allows for pre-payment and pre-arrangement of funeral arrangements.
Annuities
In addition to life insurance, the insurer writes annuities to provide income in retirement.
There are four different options for tad deferred annuities, depending on the purchaser’s needs, and one single premium immediate annuity as well.
Group Benefits
United Heritage offers a suite of group insurance products that can be selected by employers to offer as part of a voluntary employee benefits package. The coverage options are:
- Group Term Life
- Short-term Disability
- Long-Term Disability
- Vision
Auto Insurance
The company has a personal auto insurance policy that appears, from the information on the site, to be fairly straightforward and basic.
The program offers all of the basics- liability, comprehensive coverage, and collision coverage, along with a good selection of endorsements:
- Towing & Labor
- Rental reimbursement
- Extended non-owned autos
- Loan/lease coverage
- Property damage
- Excess electronic equipment
- Transportation expenses
Discounts include the usual options such as auto/home, good student, multi-car, and claim-free.
Home Insurance
Home insurance is again a fairly straightforward package policy.
The base policy covers the dwelling and other structures, liability, personal property, and loss of use. Extended replacement cost for the dwelling is available as an option, as is enhanced personal property coverage.
Standard coverage also includes several other benefits, some of which are not included in a base policy elsewhere, such as fire department charges, sewer backup, and refrigerated goods. It is a comprehensive policy overall, with plenty of inclusions, although extended replacement cost is not standard.
Farmowners
There are a few package policies for farms.
The first policy type is aimed at country homes with small, non-commercial farming operations. Specifically, hobby farms, “gentleman farms”, and ranches.
The Country Living and Country Living Plus policies provide all of the coverage of a home insurance policy along with coverage specific to farms and ranches. This includes coverage for livestock, crops, and equipment.
The Ponderosa Farm & Ranch policy is designed for larger farming operations that require more coverage. There are two levels of this policy with different eligibility requirements.
Farm policies include additional liability for farm-specific risks and coverage for additional structures and personal property.
Commercial
The company has a business owners package policy called Business Plus, which is aimed at small retail and office businesses. It includes coverage for business property and general liability, as well as a loss of income coverage and several options that allow the package to be customized.
The other commercial option from this company is their Landlord Plus. This policy is designed for the needs of those that own rental dwellings and provides special coverage for loss of rents and liability related to owning a rental property.
Personal Umbrella
Personal umbrella policies can be purchased to supplement the liability coverage on any of the company’s other policies. The site does not list the limits available on these policies, nor is there much other detail.
Are the company’s rates competitive?
Online quoting is not available for United Heritage, which is common for a regional company that relies on independent agents.
The site offers an agent locator to help visitors connect with a local agent in order to obtain insurance quotes. Generally, companies like this one do not have the lowest rate but aim to provide value with good coverage and personalized customer service.
How are claims filed?
United Heritage Property & Casualty has two main ways to file a claim, online or over the phone.
The online claims form can be accessed directly from the website and starts with a somewhat unusual disclaimer and fraud warning before taking the visitor to the claim form.
There are two separate claims phone numbers, a mainline and an after-hours line. The business hours for the main line are not listed, so it is unclear what is considered to be “after hours”.
The Life page does not list any claim contact information. Since they are separate companies we would anticipate that they have different claims departments, but the life site offers only a main customer service line.

Are the ratings and consumer reviews positive?
United Heritage Financial Group has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), with only one complaint on file in the past three years. Their BBB business profile shows they have been accredited since 1996, and no reviews have been left about the company.
United Heritage Property & Casualty has two Yelp reviews, both of which are negative, customer complaints. Both reviews cite the exact same issue, down to the same details, which is unusual. Either way, the complaint volume is very low.
We were unable to find much else in the way of reviews for this company, which is generally a positive thing for an insurance company.
What’s the bottom line?
United Heritage has some solid products, but without rates, it is difficult to determine how they stack up for value. They have a good reputation and are worth a closer look for those that prefer to work with an agent to take care of their insurance needs.
