What is United Home Life?
United Home Life was founded in 1948 and operates as a subsidiary of United Farm Family Life Insurance Company, although the website presents both names as equals in terms of branding. Both companies are in fact owned in turn by the Indiana Farm Bureau, a large farm bureau offering a range of insurance options.
The insurer has a somewhat dated website that offers minimal information on the company. They sell primarily through insurance agents, and the lack of an updated website shows that – it is not really aimed at bringing in new customers. They do offer a PDF version of a life insurance brochure that offers a little more policy information than some other companies provide online.
The company is based in Indianapolis but sells its products across the country through local agents. In addition to final expenses, they also write whole life insurance and term life insurance policies.
The United Home Life Insurance Company phone number is 317-692-7979. This is the main customer service number.

What are the options for final expense insurance?
There are a few options for final expense insurance in two categories – Express Issue and Guaranteed Issue. Both categories are simplified issue life insurance, meaning there are no medical exams required for any of the products. There are, however, levels of the Express plan that are issued based on the underwriting process, which does include health history questions.
The basic Express Issue Whole Life policy is a graded death benefit plan. For the first two years, the death benefit coverage is equal to all premiums paid plus interest. From year three onward, the full death benefit is payable. This plan allows those who may have a riskier health history to get coverage more easily. This plan includes several no-cost riders: Identity Theft Waiver of Premium, Common Carrier Accidental Death, and Hospital Stay Waiver of Premium.
The Express Premier and Deluxe plans both offer the full death benefit from the day of issue. This policy has several rider options as well and adds a no-cost Accelerated Death Benefit for terminal illness. A child rider and accidental death benefit are also available.
The final policy in this category is the Provider, which is also an immediate death benefit policy. This is described as a whole life policy for all ages and does not appear to be specific to final expense planning.
The Guaranteed Issue Whole Life policy is the simplest plan available and has no health questions or exams. This makes it an option for those that may have had trouble getting coverage elsewhere.
Coverage is available to age 100 on a graded plan; for the first three policy years, the death benefit is limited to premiums paid plus interest. From year four onward, the full death benefit is payable. The full death benefit is payable on accidental death from the date of issue.
The maximum available death benefit is not listed for any of the policies. It is likely that a lower limit applies to the Guaranteed Issue plan, which is a higher risk for the insurance company due to the limited underwriting process.
Does the company offer competitive insurance rates?
United Home Life sells through agents and as a result, they do not offer any online quoting for life insurance coverage. It is not surprising given the dated appearance of the website. Companies that count on agents to bring in new business often do not have modern websites with online quoting. Again, though this is not a surprise, there are competitors in the agent-sales final expense business that do offer basic online quoting as insurance customers today expect to be able to gather rate information without having to face a lot of solicitation.
United Home’s Guaranteed Issue plan is likely the most expensive of the options. The lack of health history represents a higher risk to the company, although they mitigate this risk somewhat with the three-year graded death benefit limits.
While we don’t have Final Expense rates, you can take a look at these sample rates to get an idea of the average cost.
Policyholder Age | $10,000 – Male | $10,000 – Female |

United Home rates may be lower or higher, depending on the insured.
Can insurance claims be made online?
We are a little surprised to see that this company actually does have an online claim filing option. The short form can be filled out and submitted from the company website. The form can also be downloaded, printed, and mailed in. You may need a United Home Life Insurance login to follow up on claims. This is different from the United Home Life Insurance agent login.
The claim form, however, is the only piece of claims information on the site. It does not list a phone number or any other contact method. There is a main customer service number listed on the contact page of the site, with business hours listed as Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. We would expect that claims questions can be handled through this contact phone number since there are no others listed.

Are the ratings and consumer reviews positive?
United Home Life Insurance Company Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating is an A+, and they have been accredited since 2016. There are only two customer complaints on file in the past three years. There are three negative reviews on the BBB page, one of which cites poor customer service, the others regarding an issue of a policy that differs from what they applied for. The company does appear to respond to complaints and solve the issues.
There are four reviews on Google for an overall 3.5-star rating. One review, the only one-star rating, describes problems with an issue of a policy and unauthorized withdrawals, describing what the customer felt was a United Home Life Insurance Company ripoff. The remaining five-star ratings have no comments.
In general, there is not much in the way of complaints about this company, and they do respond to complaints quickly and efficiently. Some of the complaints reflect a lack of understanding of the underwriting process, which is not uncommon.
What’s the bottom line?
Information on this company is limited, but they do have a solid financial standing and there are no red flags. They may be a good choice for those that are seeking a no-health-questions policy, but without rates, we cannot say how they stack up to their competitors in terms of value. It might be worth getting a quote if you are in the market for simple insurance and have had trouble qualifying elsewhere.
