With its roots in agriculture, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance has expanded since its inception to cover a full range of personal lines products as well as business insurance and financial products. They cover the entire state of Indiana through a network of agents.
About Indiana Farm Bureau
Founded in 1934, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance is one of many insurance companies in the U.S. born out of the need to provide coverage to farmers. The company was created by its namesake organization and expanded over the years to offer all of the major lines of insurance.
The company’s head office is located in Indianapolis, and there are branch offices in every county. Products are sold through a large network of more than 450 agents across the state. These products include home insurance, auto insurance, and life insurance on the personal lines side, business insurance, financial products, and of course farm insurance.
While membership in the Indiana Farm Bureau is not required to purchase insurance products, it does come with a list of benefits. That includes discounts at a variety of locations, however, we did not notice signs of a discount on insurance policies for members. It is also unclear whether or not purchasing a policy confers membership benefits.

Products
Indiana Farm Bureau has a solid range of basic products for individuals, farms, and businesses.
Auto Insurance
While there is little information on the auto insurance product itself found on the website, they do list an impressive number of available discounts. These include common discounts such as good student, paperless billing, and multi-policy, as well as some less common choices such as a farm rate.
Indiana Farm Bureau does offer a telematics program that can reduce insurance rates; their version of this popular trend in car insurance is called DriveTrend. Like most similar programs, it records driving habits information for the insurance company. While most of these programs provide a discount based on the information received, the Indiana Farm Bureau website seems to indicate that drivers receive a 5% discount just for enrolling.
Home Insurance
Again, there is little in the way of information on the actual policies for home insurance offered by Indiana Farm Bureau. The list of discounts for these policies is mixed in with the auto discounts, requiring a little digging to see which might apply to any particular plan. Homeowner’s discounts include common options as well as an impact-resistant roof discount.
In addition to homeowner’s insurance, renter’s insurance policies are also available.
Farm Insurance
The original policy is still offered to provide local farmers with coverage for structures, crops, livestock, and equipment. As the top writer of farm insurance in the state, they have a comprehensive program that can be customized to the needs of various types of farming operations.
Their plans include a long list of discounts and endorsements, as well as programs for farm safety and more.
Life Insurance
If you need life insurance coverage, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance offers a selection of life insurance plans, with two types of life insurance; permanent life insurance, and term life insurance.
Term life is available with 10, 20, and 30-year term lengths as well as a term life insurance policy that goes to age 65. The 20 and 30-year term plans can be purchased as a return of premium plan, paying back the premiums paid at the end of the term if the insured outlives the policy.
Whole life insurance is also available, including a cash accumulation account and several payment options. In addition to standard monthly premium payments, there is a single premium whole life plan offered.
Riders on these plans include:
- Child Rider
- Waiver of Premium
- Crisis Care
- Health Care
Business Insurance
Indiana Farm Bureau handles business insurance for a wide range of industries.
They have a Businessowners Package policy to cover a comprehensive list of business risks, with the option to add equipment breakdown coverage as well. Commercial Insurance for property and liability are also available.
Also offered is Key Employee insurance, which can be added to a package or purchased separately.
Financial Products
The financial arm of Indiana Farm Bureau insurance focuses on investments and retirement savings. Products include a variety of annuities, IRAs including traditional and ROTH, and mutual fund investments.
Rates
The online quoting system offers quotes for auto and renters insurance only and requires the filling out of a form including personal information to obtain a quote. Without detailed information entered into the system or speaking with an insurance agent, we were not able to obtain numbers.
Since this company writes insurance only in Indiana, we would be unable to provide a rate comparison based on our standard sample.
Claims
Claims can be reported either online or over the phone 24/7, which is common to large insurance companies but not always found with regional companies such as this one.
The website provides decent claims information for each of the types of insurance they write, including what you will need in order to file and a basic rundown of the process. There is also a claims satisfaction survey offered on the site that indicates the company is interested in hearing from customers about their experience with customer service.

Ratings and Consumer Reviews
Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and has been accredited since 1954. There are seven complaints on file in the past three years, the vast majority of which – six – were closed in the past 12 months. For a regional insurer of this size, this is a low complaint volume.
It is important to know when looking at reviews for this company that Farm Bureau is a name used nationwide and reviews may or may not apply to the Indiana Farm Bureau specifically. Of the 257 reviews on Consumer Affairs, we found a few that appear to be from Indiana-based reviewers. The ones we did locate after some scrolling were mainly positive.
The Bottom Line
The details on Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance’s products are pretty limited on the website, and we were unable to provide a rate comparison, which makes it difficult to form a true opinion on the value of their offerings. Their reputation is good, and as a regional insurer, they offer a very locally focused insurance choice, which is likely to appeal to those who like a homegrown company.
